About the new technologies and their directions
I don’t know about you, but I’m sometimes surprised by the new technologies integrated in the things we use every day. Maybe sometimes I was expecting those technologies, because I had heard about them before, because I had been knowing that there are peoples to work to develop them and I was waiting their integration in reality. Other times they actually take my by surprise.
With all that you can always look for some of the ideas of the feature in Science Fiction literature or movies. I do think that a few things and technologies imagined by the SF writers or scenarists will become true in reality. One example I think it’s enough: Joules Verne, because Star Wars or Star Teck still have to wiate till they’ll take part in our lives.
I’ll talk a little bit about Avatar, Surogate, Push and Gamer. In all this movies I have found a common idea: the mind control of other living beings or even persons. In Surrogate, each human can control with his mind a robot (a robotized image of him self), in Avatar a human can only control an other life form, with different bodies than ours but built especially for him, but in Gamer and Push they talk about humans who control other humans minds. In Gamer, if you buy a game, you can live through the man that you control but only controlling his body and in Push there are persons that can induce ideas and memories to other people, control their mind and their bodies.
My simple question is: Where these ideas can take us to? Is feature world just a puppet game?
I read today in The NewYork about a new technology, which already has some years of developing, who permit usual humans to control electronic devices using natural moves of their bodies, without touching any game controller, mouse, key board or remote control device. When the 3D cameras appeared this technology made a big step forward and it will be integrated in some products that will appear on the market. At the ending of this year, Microsoft will release a new system for gamers called Project Natal< which will permit humans to control the subject of their games just using their bodies moves, without the help of any other device. Also, the Japanese guys from Hitachi want to produce a TV with no remote control device (all the remote control will be made by using natural hand movements). Maybe in time they will manage to control these electronic objects only with the power of human mind. This is a quite realizable idea.
And again I ask my self:
Is feature world just a puppet game?
Those things shouldn’t bother us too much, they don’t actually deserve our attention. It is very probably that in our life time there won’t be radical changes, but the researches and our expectation in technologies matters (expectations that will have an effect on the developers and their research, in order to make their products more interesting for the us. the buyers) will sure influence our kids and our grandsons’ lives.
